Darlene M. Desimone Grethel

Darlene Desimone Grethel, born on February 10th, 1951, formerly of Cicero, passed away on February 18th in Clay, NY.
Darlene Grethel was born in Syracuse, NY to Vera and Sylvester DeSimone.
She went to school at North Syracuse High School and graduated in 1969. Darlene was Miss North Syracuse in 1968 and spent time as a member of the reunion committee for the class of 1969. After years of being courted at K-Mart, she married her high school sweetheart, Ron on September 11, 1971 at St. Rose of Lima, N. Syracuse.
She worked as an Independent Sales Representative for Genevieve's Fundraising.
Darlene was a big part of the Syracuse community through her volunteer efforts, one of which included being PTO President for several years at Lakeshore Road Elementary, and Gillette Road Middle School. Darlene held the title of Vice President of Bishop Curley Columbiettes, She was a parishioner of St. Margaret's Church, Mattydale.
She was a member of the Onondaga County Civic Social Women's Group. Darlene always had an electric smile and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She loved Friday night social hour at the Morgan Square Apartments. We salute you Darlene, with a popsicle, butter crunch ice cream, and an iced tea with extra ice and extra lemons of course.
Darlene is preceded in death by her father, Sylvester, Father and Mother-in-law Leonard and Josephine Grethel, brother-in-laws, David Grethel, Bernie Palumbo and Garry Grethel.
She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Ron; 3 children, Christopher (Tia), Jeremy (Emily) and Danielle (Mitchell); mother, Vera; brother, Ernie (Eileen); sister, Danette Desimone; 4 granddaughters; 1 grandson; several sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will take place Friday, 4-7 PM at New Comer Funeral Home, N. Syracuse. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, at St. Margaret's Church, Mattydale at 10 AM. Cremation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Darlene's honor may be made to St. Margaret's Church, Food Pantry or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
