It is with a heavy heart and great sorrow that we confirm that our beloved mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother, Darlene Joyce Darby, 67, of Liverpool, passed away March 12, 2024. Darlene was born in Malone, New York on March 23, 1956 to Leonard "Moe" and Valda Mulverhill. Darlene retired from Peace Inc. Head Start after 24 years as an infant teacher. She loved caring for the babies and treated them as if they were her own, often developing strong relationships with them and their families that carried on past their time in her formal care.
In her free time, Darlene enjoyed spending time with her family, in particular her grandchildren, Megan and Christopher, and her sister, Candy. Darlene was an avid gardener and relished watching her hummingbirds hover among her flowers. She spent many happy hours crafting and cooking delicious recipes to nourish those she loved most. A loyal, compassionate, celebrative spirit, Darlene appreciated every moment she had with friends, family and her loyal fur-babies.
She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard "Moe" Mulverhill and mother, Valda Mulverhill; son, James Alden Darby; brother, Lenny Mulverhill; and widower, James W. Darby.
Darlene is survived by her two daughters, Shannon Huggins (Johnny Huggins) and Theresa Darby (Erik Powell); sister and best friend, Candy Frank (Arthur Frank), sister, Jackie Ceilock (Chet); brothers, Bruce Beane (Lynn), Allan Beane, Thomas Mulverhill (Robin), Brian Mulverhill, and John Mulverhill; grandchildren, Christopher Brizzi and Megan Powell; and many Nieces and Nephews, Great Nieces and Nephews, Cousins, Friends, and Bella Rose and Storm Lee, her sweet fur-babies.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 18 from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations and Funerals, 705 N. Main St., Syracuse, NY 13212. Interment will take place following services at Riverview Cemetery in Baldwinsville, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to your local animal shelter.
