Darlene H. Butler, August 15, 1950 - October 25, 2023
Darlene was born in Oneonta, NY, the second of three daughters to the late Charlie and Dorothy Hobart. The family traveled across the country before Charlie's broadcasting career brought them back to NY, finally settling in Syracuse.
She graduated from Onondaga Central High School, where she enjoyed singing in the chorus and playing piano, as well as acting in the drama club. She was also a cheer leader and a model, competing in, and winning local beauty pageants.
After high school, Darlene studied at SUNY Fredonia, where she furthered her interests in the arts. Her many talents included drawing, painting, and writing poetry. She also studied at Bryant and Stratton and Empire State College. She worked at several businesses throughout Central NY, retiring from CBD Property Management in 2018.
On Wednesday, October 25th, Darlene lost a terribly debilitating battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was with her family when she passed, and now is at peace.
Darlene leaves behind the following family and friends that will forever miss her contagious laughter and kind heart.
Her daughter, Tamara (Joseph) Irish; 4 grandsons, Andrew, Ethan (Erin), Canaan and Jordan Irish; 3 great-granddaughters, Ireland, Reagan, and Kinsley Irish; 2 nieces, Sarah (Ryan) Hawk, and Amy (Stephen) Pichoske; 3 great-nieces, Gracie Redmond, Ella and Charlotte Hawk; 2 cousins, Kevin Ahern and Arlene (Fred) Baxter, and a sister, Christine Sessions.
Sadly, Darlene lost her best friend and younger sister, Nancy, in 2011, just a few short weeks after Nancy's husband, Michael passed. Then in 2016, Darlene's oldest grandson, Adam, died at 26, unexpectedly. In August of last summer, Darlene lost her mother, Dorothy, at 98 ½ years old. Thankfully, Darlene is no longer grieving these losses, and no longer fighting any illness.
Calling hours will be from 9:00-10:30am Saturday, November 4th at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 North Main Street, North Syracuse, NY 13212. Funeral and graveside service immediately following.
