Darlene T. Brown

September 21, 1944 — February 23, 2023

Darlene T. Brown, 78, of Clay, New York passed away peacefully on February 23,2023 after battling several medical issues.

Darlene, "Dolly" as her friends and family liked to call her- attended Cathedral in Syracuse, New York. She worked for Onondaga County in several different capacities during her career the last of which was for Onondaga County Public Library in Syracuse as a Typist II until her retirement in May 2007 to spend time more time with her grandchildren and family.

She loved and lived for spending time with her three grandchildren, her four children and her husband of nearly 60 years. She enjoyed watching them swim in the pool, hearing the sounds of their laughter and cooking family Sunday dinners.

Christmas was her favorite holiday as it was the perfect opportunity for her to spoil her grandchildren with floor to ceiling presents and so much love.

She was fortunate to have many friends who loved her and she was always there to lend an ear to listen, or a shoulder to cry on and was always the first to make a warm meal for a friend or anyone in need.

Somehow she always managed to strike up a conversation with a total stranger no matter where she was in line at the grocery store, pumping gas, anywhere, much to the embarrassment of her grandchildren.

She missed her calling as a party planner – always known for planning and throwing over the top parties, where she would never miss a detail. Always the life of the party – with a quick joke or sarcastic remark she was a force of nature and you never knew what she was going to say next.

She was an avid animal lover who did not discriminate – she would feed dogs, cats, rabbits, squirrels, skunks, racoons, birds, you name it she loved them and would feed them all. There was never a dog being walked through her neighborhood that didn't know exactly where to stop to get a treat from her.

Our hearts are broken over this tremendous loss – her family is finding solace knowing that she is no longer in pain and is once again back in the arms of her son Todd, her mother Helen and her father William who she missed so much.

Darlene is predeceased by her son Todd R. Brown, mother Helen J. Schrader and father William H. Schrader. She is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years George R. Brown, her daughter Shelly M. Brown, daughter Lynette H. Young (Kevin), son Curt W. Brown (Debra) and grandchildren Tyler J. Young, Autumn S. Brown, Samantha Young.

Services will be private – a Celebration of Life will be held and announced at later time for family and friends. Donations can be made to the SPCA in her name.
