Daniel Robert Walter

Daniel R. Walter, 61, of Syracuse, New York died Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in Syracuse.

A native and life resident of the Syracuse area, he was the son of the late Leo and Fern Walter. Dan was a US Army veteran serving in the Vietnam Era. He was a member of the Mattydale American Legion Post 1832. He was predeceased by his brother, Sgt. Leo Walter who died in 1979.

Surviving are his wife of 30 years, the former Carol Blair; stepson, Edward (Ginger) Ott; grandsons, Zachary, Jared and Walter; brothers-in-law, James (Diane) and John (Eileen) Blair; sisters-in-law, Nancy Blair and Patricia (Clifton) Reynolds and his beloved K-9 companion, Baby B.

Dan's family would like to thank the entire staff at the VA Health Center and the VA Home Based Health Care, especially Susan Hanson and Walter Benthall.

Services will be Monday, September 19, 2011 at 10 AM at New Comer Funeral Home, North Syracuse. Burial will be in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday, September 18, 2011 from 2-5 PM at the funeral home, 705 North Main Street.
