Daniel E. Nelson, 80, of Liverpool NY, passed away on November 26, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. Dan was born on December 8, 1940, in Schenectady, New York, the son of Harold and Dorothy Nelson. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marie, and their two sons, Eric and Chad.
Dan met Marie while the two worked together at Western Union in Albany, NY. He went on to spend the remainder of his career working in IT Services for General Electric, then Lockheed Martin, retiring from the latter in 2014. In retirement, Dan joined Marie working in the special needs community, a role he cherished, and which he continued right up until the time of his passing.
In his spare time, he enjoyed DIY home and outdoor projects. There was nothing he could not repair or build from scratch. He was also a history buff, with a particular interest in WWII. Himself a veteran, Dan served in the Army, stationed in Heidelberg, Germany from 1959-1962.
Dan was a loving husband, and a devoted father. Those who knew him were struck by his endless patience, compassion and easygoing nature. He always exuded extreme optimism, even in the most challenging of circumstances.
No services will be held at this time, as Dan's family will celebrate his life privately.
