D. Ned Hovater

D. Ned Hovater, 77, of North Syracuse, passed away Tuesday surrounded by his children. A native of Detroit, MI, Ned served in the Marines during the Korean War. He brought his family to Liverpool when he accepted a job transfer while employed by Pneumo Services. Ned had a long history of involvement in local youth sports. He coached baseball in the Seneca River North Little League. He was a past President of Liverpool Babe Ruth, and a longtime coach at Midstate Youth Hockey in its Learn to Skate Program. Ned enjoyed making wood furniture and was a member of the Sawdust & Woodchips Club. He is predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Carole.
Surviving are his children, Patti (Jeff) Leonard, Eric (Amy) Hovater, Chris Hovater and Cheri (Cliff) Merkling; and grandchildren, J.D., Kayleigh, Cameron, Kyle, Brooke, Alexis, Griffin and Claudia.
Services will be held Friday at 7 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Syracuse.
Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-7 PM, before the service, at the funeral home, 705 N Main St. The Family wishes to acknowledge the gracious care provided Ned by The Crossings Nursing Home.
