Clifford W. Hirsh, 95, passed away peacefully at the Abraham House in Rome on Friday, November 19th, 2021. He was born on November 29th, 1925 in Van Buren, NY, one of seven children of Edward and Amy Storr Hirsh.
Placed in foster care at a young age due to the death of his mother, he received his education from the School of Hard Knocks as well as the Fabius Schools. He married Helen Schlie in 1946, and after divorcing, later married Betty Magee in 1959. Following Betty's death, Cliff was fortunate to have found longterm and loving partners in Joan Kennedy of Liverpool, NY and Florence Petrovich of New Port Richey, FL. Cliff was a very hard worker throughout his life and was employed at Prestolite for 41 years as an engine repairman.
He also played drums in several bands in the Syracuse area for 25 years. Upon retirement, he worked as a landscaper and enjoyed gardening, music, reading, animals, golf and especially dancing. He loved doing the polka with a lady in his arms.
Cliff is survived by his daughter, Kathy (Kevin) Smith of Durhamville, with whom he resided for the past twelve years, as well as a son David from NYC/Oneida.
In keeping with Cliff's wishes, there will be no calling hours and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution be made to Abraham House of Rome, 417 N. Washington St., Rome, NY 13440.
Cliff's family would like to give special thanks to the care received both at Abraham House and at Trivalley Family Practice in Vernon. We were blessed to have such wonderful people looking after of our father and will forever be grateful.
