Aitchison, Clayton William Jr. Four days before his 85th birthday died peacefully with his wife, children, and adult grandchildren at his bedside. He was a high school star full back who faithfully served his country in Korea as a Marine.
Upon his return, he was a founder of Midstate Elevator Company in Syracuse leading with exacting standards.
Work was a vehicle for him to improve the physical world and pour himself into the lives of his employees, many of whom called him, "Dad." Clayton filled his time with family especially enjoying ongoing projects at his camp on Third Lake in Old Forge, NY called "Tree Haven."
Son of the late Clayton Aitchison and Almeda Galusha Aitchison was predeceased by his first wife Ruth Palmer Aitchison and is survived by his wife of 43 years, Barbara Aitchison, his six children Judy Kopp (Tom) of Lexington, SC, Debbie Aitchison Brooks (Barry McWeeney) of St. Petersburg, FL, Clayton Aitchison III (Mary) of Baldwinsville, NY, and Andrew Aitchison (Sally) of Liverpool, Richard Klingensmith (Chrissy) of Cleveland, NY, and David Klingensmith (Ursala Fields) of Liverpool. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren Ryan Kopp (Kara Williams), Robbie Kopp (MaryAlex) and Sarah Kopp Childers (Jared) of South Carolina, Christian and Cameron Aitchison of Liverpool, Michael Aitchison of Baldwinsville David Kingensmith Jr. of Syracuse and Jessica Klingensmith of Syracuse and great grandson Aiden. Clayton is also survived by his cousin Robert Galusha of Florida and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be on Sunday from 1-4pm at New Comer Funeral Home. 705 N. Main St.,N. Syracuse. Services will be Monday at 11am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at N. Syracuse Cemetery.
