Clarence M. Smith Sr., 82, of Syracuse passed away Wednesday. Born and raised in Syracuse, Clarence was an avid bowler and president of the local bowling association. He raised money for the Veterans Hospital with the Bowlers Victory League. He was a truck driver with Swift Premium Meats for over 37 years. He was an avid outdoorsman in his younger years.
He was predeceased by his wife, Beverly J. (1992) and his brother Daniel (2010)
He is survived by his children, Clarence M. (RoReyna) Smith Jr, Mary Jane Shaffer, Alice J. Smith, Beverly A. Smith and James M. Smith; grandchildren, Timothy A. Smith, Raymond J. Schell III, Jeremy D. Smith and Jennifer L. Smith; three great grandchildren, Kaleb Smith, Matthew and Natalie Schell; sibilings, Harry Smith, Frank Smith, Jerome Smith, Dorothy Lavy and Clara Cooper; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 1-4 p.m. at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St, N. Syracuse. Graveside services will be Tuesday 1 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Golisano Children's Hospital and the VA Medical Center, Syracuse.
