In 1953 she immigrated to Hilo, HI; 1954 to Ithaca, NY where she was employed at Cornell University, revered for precision preparation of laboratory slides. A devoted wife and homemaker, she moved to Syracuse, NY in 1967 and was House Director of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority at Syracuse University (1980-1990).
Known for her love of Japanese culinary arts, gardening, ceramic pottery, weaving, textile art and all living things, Chizuko is survived by her husband, Tadashi, her children, Mark (Dee)Murakami, Sharon(Mike)Taylor, Kirk Murakami, Masako (Greg)Hamm and Val Murakami; grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In keeping with her wishes, there are no calling hours or funeral.
To quote Chizuko's Buddhist approach to life and death:
"Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift, which is why it is called the present. What the caterpillar perceives is the end; to the butterfly is just the beginning. Everything that has a beginning has an ending. Make your peace with that and all will be well."
In lieu of flowers, kindly consider the Alzheimer's Association of CNY & Hospice of CNY.
