He was a graduate of North Pemiscot High School, in Wardell, MO. After High School Chester joined the United States Air Force where he served 21 years. After retiring from the military Chester went on to work and retire from the Syracuse VA Medical Center.
Chester was preceded in death by brothers, David, Douglas and Dennis. He was also preceded in death by both parents, Clifford Edward and Frances Marie.

He also leaves behind two brothers, Jerry (Cathy) Slavings and William Slavings; a sister, Brenda; as well as, many nieces and nephews.
Chester enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on cars, and reading/watching westerns. He enjoyed frying up and eating his catch/hunt, particularly with his father's gravy. He also enjoyed his breakfast, as long as he was the one that cooked it. He was an avid listener of hard rock whether that was on his collection of vinyl, tape, cd, or even YouTube. He also enjoyed spending time with his sister-in-law, Frances Rose, fishing, playing cards, pestering her, and enjoying a cold one. Chester loved his grandchildren. As they grew up, he enjoyed spending time with them whether that was bouncing them on his legs, playing in the leaves and snow, mixing a good barrel of concrete, or showing them things, they would need as grown-ups. Cannot forget a good round of wrestling. That was always a good time with his daughter and grandchildren when they were little. His best bud was Sweetie, his faithful beagle, who preceded Chester on October 6th, 2022. Chester was also an active member of the American Legion.
A memorial will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main St., North Syracuse on Saturday, June 24th 2023 from 1-3pm. Military Honors will be held at the end of the memorial.
