Charles W. Moore, 83, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully May 31, 2024.
Charles was born in Boston, Massachusetts on December 5, 1940, to Charles and Stella Moore.
Charles aka "Chuckles" & "Charlie Moe" attended Boston public schools and graduated from Boston Trade. In high school, he ran track and was a star in the 100-meter high hurdles.
On May 18, 1959, Charles started his Air Force career, where he would proudly serve for the next 22 years making the rank of MSGT. During his many years of service, he traveled to many places including France, Alaska, Minnesota, Texas, Florida, and finally to North Syracuse (Hancock Field). He is also a Vietnam Veteran. In his 22 years, he received many awards including the Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with 4 oak leaf clusters, the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, the A.F. Outstanding Unit Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with palm, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the A.F. Good Conduct Medal with 4 oak leaf clusters.
He was an electrical technician during his tenure working in Civil Engineering. While stationed at Hancock he coached the CE basketball team where they became champions. After retiring honorably, he went to work at Syracuse University where he would be an electrician for the next 25 years.
Charles was somewhat of a comedian. He had a few catchphrases that he used regularly including.... I am the Great I am... Do you want a backhand... Pull my finger and Mercy. He could make you laugh at the drop of a dime. He was a great cook and grill master. His specialties were pigs’ feet, ribs, and potato salad. Charles was an avid grocery shopper, everyone knew him in Wegmans. He loved to sit and watch the trains, read his newspapers, and listen to his jazz.
Charles was a loving caring and supportive Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and Friend.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Stella Winifred Moore; father, Charles Evans Moore; sister, Joan Milbourn and brother, Jonathan Horton.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sarephine N. Moore, son, Pete (Teresa) Moore; daughter, Yolanda Moore; three grandchildren, Armani Moore, Amari Moore, Bryce Moore; sister, Cynthia Moore; niece, Staci Spencer; nephew, Michael Davis; Several other nieces and a nephew, cousins, and friends.
Family and friends may call on Thursday, June 13, 2024, from 9 to 10am at New Comer Cremations & Funerals 705 N. Main St. North Syracuse. Where funeral services will be held at 10am. Interment at the Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery 4069 Howlett Hill Rd. Syracuse, NY 13212.
