Catherine P. McAvoy, 89, passed away on Tuesday at Van Duyn Nursing Home.
Catherine was born on January 25, 1927 in Cortland, the daughter of the late John and Clara Pickering. She retired from the Syracuse Police Dept. in 1984 as Sergeant.
Cathy was one of the first Female Road Sergeants in the state of New York. Cathy was also a devout member of the Liverpool First United Methodist Church.
She belonged to the Salina Senior Center as well. She loved her dogs and her angels. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Harry McAvoy.
Catherine is survived by her daughters, Joanne (Bill) Edlen, Catherine (Bill) Baird, Linda Lardeo, sons, Charles (Joyce) Ellis, Raymond (Maritza) Ellis, 15 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, stepchildren, Kathleen, Eddie, Shelly and Billy.
A short memorial service will be held on Monday 1pm at New Comer Funeral Home.
