Catherine M. Johnson, 90, of North Syracuse, passed away February 6, 2019 at Menorah Park.
She was born in McAlpin, WV.
She graduated from high school at 15, then enrolled in Beckley College, Beckley, WV. To earn her tuition then, she worked as a secretary to the Business Manager and the Dean, also taught shorthand and typing classes. She later moved with her family to Detroit, where she worked as a private secretary for the next 3 years. In 1949 she married her husband, William and they moved to N. Syracuse in 1951. They lived there until they entered Menorah Park in 2017.
She was predeceased by her husband, William, of 68 years, and a younger brother, Robert of Farmington Hills, MI.
Her survivors are her children, Sharon Hambrecht of Clay, Patricia (Charles) Bisgaier of Ann Arbor, MI, David (Michele) Johnson of Cicero, and Gregory (Susan) Johnson of Liverpool. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; brother, Raymond Cataline of Westland, MI and a sister, Ellen of Birmingham, MI.
She was an active member of Pitcher Hill Community Church since 1956, where she taught Sunday School for 6 years and was active in Couples Club and the Wednesday Group. She loved to read, listen to good music, cook, and send hundreds of cards and letters to many people all over the country.
Calling hours will be held at Northminster Presbyterian Church, Buckley Road, N. Syracuse on Monday, February 11 at 10am with a memorial service to follow at 11am. A private burial will take place at Veteran's Cemetery next to her husband.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
