Carrie Elizabeth Maxey

Carrie Elizabeth Maxey, 68, of Syracuse passed away on Monday. She was born on October 23, 1950 to Henry and Florence Nellons, the seventh child out of fifteen children.

Carrie Maxey was a graduate of Syracuse City School District and received her Medical Office Assistant degree from Central City Business Institute. She was working towards her bachelors in Business Administration at University of Phoenix.

Carrie had an admirable work ethic that started at the age of 14 years old when she worked at Syracuse Board of Education typing flash cards and secretarial work. At the age of 15, Carrie worked at Syracuse University in the dining hall as the "silver girl" where she cleaned the tables, stacked the chairs and shined the silverware, CNA at Jewish Home, Smith Corona (type writers), Bristol Laboratories, Crucial Steel (first black female forewoman), Syracuse Savings Bank, Marine Midland Bank, Air National Guard (4 1/2 years top secret administrator), 7-eleven clerk, in-home CNA in Arizona, Penn Advertising sales support secretary, graphic artist and computer technician, and Lamar Outdoor Advertising sales secretary.

Carrie was a talented cook and baker and often donated her baked goods to nursing homes and fire departments. Her hobbies included: sewing, photography, computer technology, collecting rings, hats, perfume. She loved to dance, online shopping, beautifying her home, and watching old black and white movies. In addition to loving her children, Carrie demonstrated her love of Jehovah by being a charitable giver and intercessor prayer warrior for all God's people.

Carrie leaves to join her mother, Florence; father, Henry; brothers, Carl, William, Henry Jr., Dan Nellons; sisters, Daniella and Henrietta; and granddaughter, Chyna S.B. Maxey.

Carrie leaves to celebrate life and cherish her memories to her loving children: Jeana Lindell James (Michael) of Houston, Texas; John Harold Maxey Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia; Carlene Marie Lacey (James), of Syracuse, New York; Guynell Lewis Nellons Price of Syracuse, New York. Her loving grandchildren: Carrie Maxey, Eric Torrence, Brian Brown, Michael James, Deandra Pace, Andrea Pace, James Nellons Dialberto, Raejanae Lacey, Charyce Lacey, Jamie Lacey, Justus Lacey, Ashley Lacey; Her loving great grandchildren: Anthony Maxey, Olivia Maxey, Tyshaun Torrence, Alea Baldwin, Andrae Baldwin, Brenae Cooper, Naziah Karl McKenzie, Trinity Howard, Iryce Gary, Jalyn Tyler, Calyn Tyler; her brothers and sisters Edith Patterson of Beaumont, California, Charlene Key of Houston, Texas, Karen Nellons of San Antonio, Texas, Theresa McBride (Gene) of Syracuse, New York; Helene Nellons of Syracuse, New York, Jeana Nellons of Houston, Texas, Jamey Nellons of Syracuse, New York, Mark Nellons of Houston Texas and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Calling hours will take place at the Tucker Missionary Baptist Church, 515 Oakwood Ave, Syracuse on Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM with a Homegoing Service being held from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
