Carolyn J. Smith

January 2, 1944 — October 28, 2020

Carolyn J. Smith ("Kiki"), 76 of North Syracuse (formerly of Henderson Harbor and Eastwood) passed away at home with her family by her side on October 28, 2020. Carolyn was born in Syracuse, New York on January 2, 1944 to the late Mary (DePaul) and John F. Tobin. She was predeceased by her sister Maryanne (Tobin) DeStefano.

Carolyn was a communicate of St. Rose Parish; in her younger years she shared her time volunteering at Blessed Sacrament school and parish in Eastwood and her talent as a member of its choir for 28 years. Carolyn enjoyed recalling memories of her high school days at St. Vincent DePaul and participating in parish talent shows.

She loved spending time with her family and made sure everyone learned to play "pitch" and was happy to know she taught the game well if she lost; she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren sharing her passion for making up song lyrics, singing, dancing and reminding them to always ask themselves "what would Jesus do". Carolyn was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be missed by all that were lucky enough to meet her faith-filled, loving, caring and sensitive spirit.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years James P. Smith; Daughter Linda (Anthony) Berardi; Sons James (Lisa Lauricella) Smith, Jr., Michael (Trish) Smith and Thomas (Sheri) Smith; as well as grandchildren Marissa, Nicole, Ryan, Jonathan, Dylan and James, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hematology Oncology for the wonderful care she received during these trying times of social distancing; and our heartfelt thank you to Sue LaFaver who assisted with homecare and became mom's soul sister in music keeping her singing show tunes and religious songs right to the end. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Rose of Lima Church and School of N. Syracuse, NY.
