Carole A. Hovater, 72, of North Syracuse passed away Thursday with her family by her side. A native of South Bend, Indiana, Carole and her family settled in Liverpool in the 1970's. A sports enthusiast, Carole's legacy includes involvement in many area youth sports leagues, specifically the Seneca River North Little League baseball and softball, the Liverpool Babe Ruth and Midstate Youth Hockey. She enjoyed gardening, making homemade jams and family time around the card table. Carole recently retired from the Insurance Shop in Liverpool.
Surviving are her husband of 52 years; Ned, children; Patti (Jeff) Leonard, Eric (Amy) Hovater, Chris Hovater and Cheri (Cliff) Merkling, her grandchildren; J.D., Kayleigh, Cameron, Kyle, Brooke, Alexis, Griffin and Claudia. The family wishes to acknowledge the gracious care provided Carole by her family physicians and Crouse Hospital, especially the Intensive Care Unit.
Services will be held Tuesday at 7 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Syracuse. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-7 PM, before the service, at the funeral home, 705 N Main St.
Contributions may be made to the Crouse Health Foundation, 736 Irving Avenue, Syracuse, NY 13210.
