Carmen Bonacci

July 13, 1929 — March 26, 2024

Carmen Bonacci, 94, a man of resilience and independence, peacefully departed this world on March 26th. Born in 1929 in Risorta Petrulo, Italy, he immigrated with his family at eight, seeking hope and opportunity in the United States.

At 94, Carmen's vibrant spirit and unwavering vitality were evident as he tended to his lawn, cleared snow, and even tackled fallen trees, embodying a lifelong ethos of self-sufficiency and independence.

Carmen dedicated decades of his life to General Motors, where he toiled diligently until his well-deserved retirement, which was marked by the company's closure. Carmen's dedication to hard work began at 14, shaping his strong work ethic as he helped support his family.

Amidst life's demands, Carmen found solace in simple pleasures, nurturing his love for gardening, and cultivating bountiful harvests of garlic and tomatoes. Crafting homemade wine and cider brought him joy, yet sailing on Oneida Lake was his true passion, providing him sanctuary. A dedicated craftsman, Carmen's hands were always busy constructing his own home with his brother, and meticulously crafting 18 model sailboats up to 5 feet long, showcasing his skill and dedication in the marriage of wood and metal.

He now joins his loved ones who have gone before him: his father Antonio, mother Chiara, brothers Peter and Nick, sisters Rose and Madeline, and his beloved daughter Della Hinman.

Carmen is survived by his brother, Luigi; daughter, Diane (Vincenzo) Savinelli; grandchildren, Antonio (Dawn), Palma, and Daniela (Dan); as well as his four great-grandchildren; and along with a host of nieces and nephews.
