Carlton L. Wilcox

Carlton L. Wilcox, 89, of West Winfield, passed into eternal rest to be with his Lord and Savior on March 17, 2006 at his home with the comfort of his loving family at his side. Carlton was born February 25, 1917 in Unadilla Forks, the son of the late Horace L. and Mary A. (Wing) Wilcox. He was a lifelong resident and graduate of West Winfield Central School. On June 18 1940 he was united in marriage to Sherry E. Sherwood, sharing 65 years of blessed union by each others side. As a successful agricultural businessman, he and his wife operated a 400 acre dairy farm. They also owned and operated Holiday Acres associated with Farm Vacations Inc. for many years. Carlton also served on the Plainfield Town Board as assessor and councilman. He was also a member of Unadilla Forks Baptist Church and Faith Chapel in Bridgewater where he served as deacon and trustee. An avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed hunting, trapping and trout fishing. He never missed the first day of trout season in seventy eight years. He was an SU fan; he also enjoyed softball, playing on organized teams late into his forties. Carlton was a loving husband and father, a mentor, a hero and an inspiration to his family. His survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Sherry of West Winfield; his two daughters, Marcia Lee Williams and husband Glen of St. Louis, MO, Pamela Andela of West Winfield; two sons, C. Kendrick Wilcox and wife Johanna of West Winfield, Craig L. Wilcox and wife Linda of West Winfield, thirteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; two brother in laws, Cedric Sherwood and wife Sandy and Ronald Sherwood and wife Carolyn, both of Boonville.
The family will receive friends and relatives at Faith Chapel in Bridgewater on Wednesday from 12 to 1:30 PM. A life celebration service will follow officiated by Pastor Jerry Race with interment to follow in the Unadilla Forks Cemetery. Contributions in Carlton's name may be made to the Faith Chapel Building Fund.
