Carl E. Heil

June 23, 1934 — October 1, 2017

Carl E. Heil, 83, of Cicero, passed away on Sunday in Minoa, New York after a long illness. He was born in Syracuse, New York on June 23, 1934, the son of Daniel and Julia (Zimmerman) Heil.

Carl is survived by his wife of 46 years, Rhondda C. Heil, daughters; Pamela H. Casey, Diane (James) Barrett, Laurie (Peter) Wieland, son, Chris (Pam) Heil, stepson, Derek Knickerbocker, and stepdaughter, Janet (Jeff) Gibson, 15 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and a host of other family members and friends.
He was preceded by his parents, Daniel and Julia as well as 2 brothers; Daniel and Walter Heil, and 2 sons, Michael and Mark Heil as well as his beloved cats, Mr. Bibs, and Cinnamon.

Carl served in the United States Army and did a tour in Korea. He later worked for his father at Heil Machine Inc. He worked at Hercules Inc. in Glens Falls, NY for 17 years as a laboratory technician. He later went back to school and graduated Salutatorian from Simmons School of Mortuary Sciences, and worked at funeral homes in the Syracuse area. He later worked for Babbit Bearings Inc. where he retired.

During his lifetime he continued to dapple in his first love of music. Throughout his life he played the upright bass and was a part of several bands including "The Carl Heil Trio". He loved jazz music and though he was never classically trained he could play any musical instrument by ear. He also loved to play golf in his spare time as well as repair musical instruments in his basement-repair shop. Throughout his lifetime his faith was a part of his everyday life. Up until the end he believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior.

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.
