Byron R. Thoman

Byron "Barney" R. Thoman, 95, of Liverpool, passed away on Tuesday.
He retired from Crouse-Hinds Engineering Department in 1981, after 40 years. He was born in Oxbow, NY. He was a graduate of Liverpool High Picture School, attended Washington State College before his enlistment in the Army Air Force during World War II. After his return from Service on Guam in the South Pacific, he built his home on Oswego Road under the G.I. Bill and moved his family in, in 1947. He and his wife were avid hikers and members of the Adirondack Mountain Club and ADK-46ers; also, charter members of the Onondaga Cycling Club. In their retirement years they traveled extensively in the U.S. and overseas through their membership in the Airstream travel trailer club, and in later years wintered in Florida.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Dorothea Rowley Thoman; a daughter, Darla (David) Vest of Floyd, VA; a son, Thomas (Cynthia Ayer)
Thoman of White Lake, MI, 4 grandchildren, Carla Ciaramella, John Tomi, Kevin Thoman and Holly Herrin; 6 great grandchildren; a sister, Verne Matzke
of Phoenix, NY; and nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours.
Funeral Services with full military honors will be Saturday May 21, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Veterans Memorial Park, 4069 Howlett Hill Road, Syracuse, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Hospice
or a charity of one's choice.
