Brian R. Mooney

February 11, 1971 — March 17, 2021

Brian R. Mooney (Bryfox), 50, of Rochester, died unexpectedly on Wednesday March 17th at a Rochester Hospital. He was born in Canton, NY on February 11, 1971 the youngest son of Richard D. and Carole (Charlton) Mooney. Brian graduated from Central Square Paul V. Moore High School, Class of 1989. He received a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1992 from Clarkson and a BS in Nursing at St. John Fisher School of Nursing. He also received his MBA from the University of Rochester in 2000. These varied degrees served as evidence of his profound intellect and work ethic.

He was first employed as Administrative Director at ICAHN School of Medicine Mount Sinai in NYC from Jan. 2001- May 2002. He was employed at Excellus Blue Cross/Blue Shield from Sept.2002-Feb. 2008 and was vice president in Clinical Informatics at Win Health Care in White Plains from March 2008-2018.

Brian grew up in picturesque farmland in Upstate New York living and playing along a rushing river and rustling fields of corn. His lifelong love of a brilliant sunset and serene landscape were fostered within this childhood playground. A highschool trip to Russia would inspire Brian's passion for other cultures and awaken his awareness to the privilege we share in the United States which would forever color his desire for equality and opportunity for all.

Above all, Brian loved time spent with his children. He took pride in sharing with them his fondness for adventure. Taking them on countless fun, exciting, educational, and often rather spontaneous excursions. However, the memories most relished by his children were the quiet nights at home, laughing together over games, movies, and his super delicious food.

He delighted in sharing his love of nature, camping, travel, ocean cruises, fishing and relaxing around a BBQ with his family and friends. Brian was well-known for his kindness and generosity and was one who always sought to provide for the needs of others. He had a quick smile and sense of humor that quickly made friends out of strangers. He was an avid sports fan, go SU Orange!, Buffalo Bills! and Toronto Blue Jays! and loved sharing his uncanny knowledge of 'stats'.

Brian will be missed by all who knew him and may we all surround him in love on his next journey.
Brian was pre-deceased by his father Richard Mooney and his brother Randall Mooney. He is survived by his daughter Ashley (Shefey Thoppil) Cleveland and grand-daughter Nevaeh of Oswego, twin sons Aidan Randall Mooney and Connor Randall Mooney of Caledonia, mother Carole Mooney, Syracuse, his sister Alicia Mooney (Anthony Anello), his niece Adelaide, Fayetteville, along with many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be announced for a date in May.
