Betsy (Howenstein) Banks, 60, of N. Syracuse, passed away at home December 22, 2014 after a five year battle with cancer. Betsy was born in Albany, NY and grew up in Westminster, Maryland. She spent all her adult life in N. Syracuse where she worked at Empire Merchants North for 42 years. Betsy created beautiful, intricate needlework and spent most Saturdays with her "Stitching" friends. Betsy was a strong, courageous soul who was our model of strength and determination.
Betsy was predeceased by her father, James W. Howenstein.
Betsy is survived by her daughter, Holly J. Garcia; grandson, Jose Garcia; sister, Susan H. Lisk; brother-in-law, Stanley Lisk; nephew, James Lisk; niece, Monica Lisk; mother, Agnes C. Howenstein; and many close friends.
She also left behind her much loved pups, Roxy and Nick.
A calling hour will be held Saturday, Feb. 21 11AM-12PM with a memorial service at 12PM at New Comer Funeral Home, North Syracuse. This is a celebration of a beautiful life taken too soon so it is only fitting we celebrate on her birthday.
Betsy's family would like to thank Dr. Bingham at Hematology Oncology Associates and Dr. Harris at Binghamton Oncology who guided Betsy through this fight.
In lieu of flowers donations in Betsy's memory may be made to Nanticoke Valley Historical Society, PO Box 75, Maine, NY 13802.
