Bernard Joseph Lombardo passed away in Florida on October 12, 2021. He is the son of Benjamin and Josephine Lombardo and he is survived by his two brothers Sam (Kathy) Lombardo and Joseph (Margaret) Lombardo.
Bernard was known by his family and friends as Rusty. He was a graduate of Liverpool High School. Rusty served in the Air Force REG AF 1972 San Antonio, Texas. Rusty's passion for being a hair dresser was illustrated within several beauty salons in Syracuse NY, Key West FL and, Wilton Manors FL. He was the General Manager of Key West Cabin and Resort in Marathon Florida. Rusty was on the social committee for the Metropolitan Community Church, FL serving on the social committee and excelled greatly at planning social get togethers.
Rusty returned back to Syracuse to help take care of his mother who passed from Alzheimer's. Soon after that, despite his rough journey with diabetes in result losing both of his legs, Rusty developed a different outlook on life and learned to walk and be an advocate for differently abled citizens.
Rusty later retired in Fort Lauderdale and Melbourne FL.
Rusty is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and remaining family in Syracuse, NY.
Rusty is known as an icon to many in the LGBTQ community, his legacy will live on forever and be something his family holds onto for eternity.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse, NY on Friday, November 12th, 2021 from 4-7pm. Services will follow at 7pm.
