Ben J. Mckittrick

October 14, 1934 — December 29, 2020

Ben McKittrick, 86, died December 29, 2020 at Elderwood in Liverpool. He was born in Dover, Ohio to the late Vern and Mamie McKittrick, nee Kurtz.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for three years during the Korean War, graduating from the Navy School where he studied electronics and radar systems. He earned a B.S. in electrical engineering from Ohio University where he was inducted into Phi Beta Tau, an engineering honor society. He later obtained an M.S. in electrical engineering from Syracuse University. After working at General Electric for many years, he retired from Lockheed Martin Corporation.

Ben was an Eagle Scout and volunteered as a leader with the Boy Scouts. He served as a Little League coach, volunteered as a tax preparer for seniors at the North Syracuse Library, and was a past president of the North Syracuse Optimist Club. Ben enjoyed visiting art museums, playing golf and cards with his friends and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara; two daughters, Katherine McKittrick and Sarah McKittrick; one son, James McKittrick and his wife, Inday; two sisters, Mary Prince and Sue Burleson; five grandchildren, Sean McKittrick, Casey McKittrick, Adeline Raines, Gabriel Raines and Nathaniel Raines; and one great granddaughter, Camilla McKittrick. He was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Marsh and Doris Smith, and a brother, John McKittrick.

A gathering of family and friends will be held later due to the COVID19 pandemic.
