Barbara D. Stearns
December 13, 2012

Barbara D. Stearns, 75, of North Syracuse, transitioned from her body and returned to her spiritual home on Thursday. She was born in Mattydale and lived much of her life in the Clay-North Syracuse area, graduating from North Syracuse High School in 1953. She graduated in 1957 from what is now Eastern University in Philadelphia. As the wife of a minister, Barbara lived in West Hartford, CT and in Huntington, W. Virginia throughout the 1960's, before returning to North Syracuse.

Throughout the years Barbara worked as a private secretary, a dental assistant, an income tax practitioner, a licensed agent & broker and a volunteer counselor with the Rape Crisis Center. She especially enjoyed visiting the sick and the elderly. She had a large herb garden and collected depression era glass from around the country. She was especially grateful for the warm and joyful spiritual guidance from the people and pastors of Pitcher Hill Community Church, Unity Church of Truth (Church of Today). She died with her family nearby, with gratitude, peace and joyful anticipation of the never ending love of God.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Harry & Myra Dixie, her brother Harry Dixie, Jr., 2 sisters; Ruby Dixie and Patricia Warner.
Surviving are her husband, Jim Stearns, 2 sons; David R. Wheeler, North Syracuse, Richard E. Wheeler, Edinburgh, Scotland, step daughter, Andrea Sperry, step son, Andrew J. Stearns, both of Baldwinsville, 5 grandchildren, sister-in-law, Helen Dixie, longtime friend, Elsie Wilson, along with nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of CNY.
