Barbara Alteri, 64, of Port Orange, FL and formerly of Syracuse, NY, passed away peacefully on July 9 surrounded by those she loved.
She was born in Syracuse in 1954, attending Bishop Ludden High School. She then attended Syracuse University via Utica College, where she received her bachelors, followed by her Master's degree in Social Work. She started work at Loretto, before moving to SUNY Upstate medical hospital, where she would retire. She enjoyed gardening, playing bunco with friends, and the occasional trip to the casino. She moved to Daytona Beach Shores to care for her mother and father in 2015. She quickly joined many organizations locally, including the Eagles, Lions Club, AMVETS, and stayed active with her church, visiting the sick.
She is predeceased by her father, Robert McArdell of Syracuse, as well as her siblings Lawrence McArdell, Patricia Hall, and Mary Ellen McArdell.
She is survived by her mother, Patricia McArdell and sister Eileen O'Connor, of Daytona Beach Shores, her son Joseph Alteri, of Albany NY, and her partner, Ray "Rocky" Siracusa of Port Orange.
Calling hours are Thursday 4-7 at Newcomer Funerals & Cremations. A mass celebrating her life will be held Friday 10am at St. Charles Parish on Fay Road in Syracuse.
