Atiba Nzinga Knight-Darbey, 50, lovingly known as "Teeb" , gained her wings and went home to be with the lord on Thursday February 9th, 2023. Atiba was born on September 1st 1972 in Manhattan, NY to Tamara and Tyrone Knight. She graduated from the High school of Telecommunications, Arts, and Technology and later went on to pursue a Psychology degree at Columbia College.
Atiba was a proud Brooklyn native. Growing up in Bushwick, she established herself as "being in charge , because she is the oldest." She was the boss. Her natural maternal spirit radiated at such an early age as she spent most of her childhood looking after her younger brother and two younger cousins. Atiba and Curtis met in their late teens through Tiba's cousin Tara (Sue Sue). Their love blossomed into 32 devoted years of marriage, four admirable children, and eight grandchildren.
Atiba adored nothing more than her role as a wife, mom, and Mema. She enjoyed sitting by the lake listening to music with her feet up, spending lots of time spoiling her grandchildren, and emerging herself in the Spirt of God. Atiba had a nurturing spirit and love for helping others. She was the biggest cheerleader for everyone who crossed her path and spent most of her time giving advice, time, and love to all.
Atiba leaves to mourn but cherish her memory, her husband Curtis, children Shariyff, Shakeal, Asia, and Tyahna, grandchildren Millahni, Jeremy, Malia, Zion, Curtis Jose, Xavier, Mya, and one on the way, mother Tamara Knight, siblings Ramza, Stacey and Rashida. Predeceased father Tyrone Knight. As well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, family, and friends. To know her, is to love her.
Calling hours will take place on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 from 10am-11:30am at The Well of Hope Church, Syracuse, New York. Funeral services will follow at 11:30-1pm. Burial will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse, New York.
