Anthony R. Neri, 64, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 4, with his wife, Julie, by his side at his home in North Syracuse. Born in Syracuse, he was a 1971 graduate of Liverpool High School. Tony began his music career at a young age, studying drumming with Len Carey and Joe Riposo. As a teenager, he enjoyed rocking out in his parents' basement with his brother, Frank, and a slew of music-loving friends. His musical career was extensive as a member of many bands, including The Jason Moore Show, The Strangers, Elmo Blake, The Goods, and FATE.
Tony worked for United Parcel Service for over 25 years, retiring in 2015. In his eyes, however, his most important jobs were being the ideal father to his only daughter and an amazing husband to his loving wife.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Freda (LaRose) Neri; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bert and Shirley Lonngren; and brother-in-law, Victor Latiuk.
Tony is survived by his wife of 35 years, Julie (Lonngren) Neri; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa (Neri) and Michael Klemperer; his sister, Arlene (Richard) DeSocio; brother, Frank (Karen) Neri; sister-in-law, Linda Latiuk; brother-in-law, Carl (Marina) Brown, nieces and nephews: Dina, Mike, Cara, Erik, and Rachel; and his best little buddy, Mello; along with many extended family members and countless friends.
A memorial reception will be held in place of formal funeral services, per Tony's request.
All are welcome to join the family as we celebrate his life, Sunday, August 12, from 2-5pm, in the lobby of Heroy Geology Laboratory on the campus of Syracuse University.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ALS Association's Walk to Defeat ALS. You can donate to Tony's team, Tony's Drummers, online (https://tinyurl.com/tonysdrummers) or in person at the memorial reception.
