Anthony Sheldon Monahan, AKA “Sonny Schultz” and “Tony the Tiger”, 98, passed away on June 17, 2024 at his home in North Syracuse.
Anthony was discharged from the Marine Corps. in 1942 and then served in the Army until 1944. He worked as a Maintenance Plumber at General Electric, then Chrysler (New Process Gear), retiring in 1988.
He loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting rabbits in his younger years with his beloved beagle, Sand Hill Tom, carrying a picture of him in his wallet throughout the years.
Anthony was an avid fan of New York Yankees baseball, Connecticut Huskies Women’s basketball and was a huge fan of the New York Liberty’s Breanna Stewart. He also enjoyed golf, had a love for woodworking and was a Ham radio operator. Nothing was more important to him than watching his Great-Grandchildren play sports.
He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Josephine Bavaria Monahan, who passed in September 2013.
He leaves behind his children, Carol (Dennis) Yandle of Kannapolis, NC, Kathy (John) Roberts of Ivins, UT, Michael Monahan of Phoenix, NY, David (Shelly) Monahan of Forest, VA; grandchildren, Jason Yeates, Jennifer Pownall, Megan Giannone, Jeff Monahan, Brandon Monahan and Courtney Monahan Nguyen; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 24,2024 4-7pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals in North Syracuse. A service will follow at 7pm.

There will be an internment at a later date in Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse, NY.
