Anthony J. Spinella, 74, of Caughdenoy Rd, Clay passed away peacefully on Thursday at home with his family at his side. He was the son of the late Salvatore and Mary Spinella. His only brother, Phillip Spinella passed away April 25, 2005. Anthony was a United States Army Veteran-Special Troops #7888 stationed in Heidelberg, Germany during the Korean War. A 1957 graduate of Lemoyne College, he started teaching English at Fulton High School that same year. He traveled to Yap Micronesea where he continued his teaching for 3 years in the mission schools. He also taught at Henniger High and North High Schools. He retired in 1992 from the Onondaga County Board of Elections after 20 years of service. Anthony was a communicant of Beacon Baptist Church. He loved the outdoors and often traveled to the Adirondacks. Gardening, photography and swimming were dear to him.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years the former Celestina Ianno, three daughters; Nancy Spinella of Cicero, Kateri Phillips of Baldwinsville and Christina (Joseph) Santimaw of Brewerton, five sons; Salvatore (Terri) Spinella of Cicero, Dominic Spinella of Clay, Anthony (fiancée Roxanne) Spinella Jr. of Central Square, Vincent (Julie) Spinella of W. Monroe and Philip Spinella of Clay, his sister-in-law; Dorothy Spinella. He was the proudest "Grampi" to Brianna, Kyra, Anthony (AJ), Nicolas, Joey, Gianni, Anthony, Carolyn, Christopher, Sara, Jennifer, Jessica, Paul and Matthew.
Services will be held on Tuesday at 10 AM at Beacon Baptist Church, Route 31, Clay. Burial will follow in North Syracuse Cemetery. Friends are invited to call on Monday from 2-4 & 6-9 PM at the New Comer Family Funeral Home, 705 North Main Street., North Syracuse.
