Anne S. Bergevin

Anne Safaryn Bergevin, 85 of Jordan, NY, died Wednesday at St. Joseph's Hospital. Born in Buffalo, NY, on July 22, 1925, the daughter of Polish immigrants, she graduated from Riverside High School in 1942. She went on to obtain her certificate from the Albright School of Art in 1945 and a BS in Art Education from State Teachers (now SUNY) College at Buffalo. During her college years, she worked at the Curtiss-Wright and Bell Aircraft plants in support of the war effort.
Following graduation, Anne relocated to Watertown, NY where she taught at North Junior High School. She married Carl Bergevin (Sr.) of Watertown on July 9, 1950. In 1951, she "retired" from teaching to raise her children, returning to the classroom as a substitute teacher at Lyme Central and Watertown High School. She relocated to the Syracuse area following the death of her husband in 1979.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by brothers Tadeusz and Richard, and a daughter, Denise B. Gurecki, in 2005.
Anne is survived by a sister, Frances Kwasniak of Centreville, VA; a son, Carl (Deborah Snyder) of Marcellus, NY; a son-in-law, Thomas Gurecki of Rochester, NY; daughters, Leslie of Syracuse and Nanette (Richard Alonso) of Jordan, NY; grandchildren, Jonathan and Kristopher Gurecki, Erin and Adam Bergevin and Kathryn Alonso-Bergevin, and a great-grandson, Jacob Gurecki.
Services and burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt were private. There were no calling hours.
Arrangements have been entrusted to New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse.
