Anne Kusner, 69, passed away peacefully, after battling cancer, on October 31st at Upstate Hospital. Anne was born on January 16, 1954, in San Antonio, Texas where her father, Ken, was stationed at the Air Force base. When she was two years old her parents, June and Ken moved to Oswego, New York where she grew up, graduating from Oswego High School. Although she only lived in Texas for a brief time it didn't stop her from becoming a rabid fan of the Dallas Cowboys (and embarrassing the rest of the family) as Sunday's were dedicated to cheering them to victory.
Anne was a devoted aunt to her niece Lauren and nephews Jamie and Paul, while being a friend and mentor to her adult stepchildren, Trey and Donna. Every year Anne would host a cookie making party for the family that resulted in various creations but was always a fun time for everyone. Anne was also known to enjoy a glass of wine or two and had a slight obsession with Christmas decorations.
After graduating from high school Anne traveled to Scotland where her Aunt Sheelagh lived on an estate and operated a fabric store in the nearby village. She spent several months there working in the store; an experience that would ignite a lifelong interest in traveling. She and her husband George traveled widely both internationally and domestically. She was also an avid quilter creating personal designs for Christmas presents for family members.
She worked in banking after graduation, before eventually settling into a career in technology, working for a number of companies before retiring as a network administrator with Legrand/Pass and Seymour. Anne was a kind person and had a smile that could light up a room. She loved animals and was devoted to her faithful dog Shadow.
Anne is survived by her husband George, mother June Roney, siblings Mark Roney and Gail Watts, stepchildren Trey Kusner (Sherry) and Donna Kusner, niece Lauren Roney and nephew Jamie Roney, and close friend Terri Roney.
Calling hours will take place on Tuesday November 7th from 5-7pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 North Main Street, North Syracuse, NY.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Helping Hounds.
