It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for her enduring spirit that we announce the passing of Ann Lousie Patla, 67, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother and friend, who passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 10, 2025. Despite a life filled with challenges, Ann was a shining example of resilience, optimism, and unconditional love.
Born the youngest of six children on July 19, 1957, Ann was born eleven years after her nearest sibling, which cemented her unique role within the family. From an early age, Ann formed deep, nurturing bonds with her siblings and their children, becoming a steadfast presence in their lives. Her love and care were a gift that enriched generations, making her the matriarchal glue that kept the family united.
Ann faced chronic illness with unyielding courage. Yet, through it all, she wore a brave face and greeted each day with an unwavering determination to find the silver lining. Her strength was a beacon, her optimism infectious, and her will to make the most of life inspiring to all who knew her.
Ann was a woman of many passions. She enjoyed working at Commercial Truck Tire Center in East Syracuse for over 21 years until her retirement. She found joy in crafting, creating beautiful pieces that reflected her vibrant spirit. She cherished her time with the Silver Fox Senior Care community where her kindness and humor left an indelible mark. A devoted fan of Syracuse University sports, she rarely missed watching a game cheering on her team with unmatched enthusiasm. Traveling brought her immense happiness, as did the treasured moments spent with her grandchildren who were the light of her life.
Above all, Ann was a fighter. She battled debilitating pain daily but refused to let it define her. She chose love, laughter, and connection, pouring her heart into her family and friends. Her legacy is one of strength, perseverance, and boundless love-a testament to the beauty of a life lived with purpose and passion.
Ann is survived by her two children, Christopher (Stephanie) Patla and Nichole (Peter) Patla, who carry forward her lessons of resilience and kindness; her cherished grandchildren, Sebastian & Aaliyah; her niece and great-niece, Robin & Estelle Miller, who provided care and comfort in her time of need; her trusty canine companion, Tully; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family & friends who adored her.
She is predeceased by her beloved parents, Francis and Jane (Early) Cavanaugh and her siblings, Thomas (Sharon) Cavanaugh, Robert (Janette) Cavanaugh, Penton Prosser, Beverly Whitman (Jack), and Lana (Donald) Voce; as well as the father of her children, William Patla.
A celebration of Ann's life will be held on Saturday, January 18th, from 1-4PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, North Syracuse, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and the incredible impact she had on all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, Ann requested donations to the Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY or the Gary Sinise Foundation, both organizations that supports causes close to Ann’s heart (and liver).
Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in the enduring love Ann leaves behind and the peace she now finds herself in. Her indomitable spirit and boundless optimism will live on in all of us, a reminder that even in the face of adversity, it is possible to shine.
