Andrew M. Whipple Sr.

Andrew M. Whipple Sr., 93, of Syracuse, NY passed away February 17, 2023. Andrew was born in Syracuse, NY on March 4, 1929 to Everett and Gertrude (Higgins) Whipple.
Andrew retired from the Syracuse Fire Dept on March 26, 1976 after many years of service. He worked as a lieutenant on the rescue squad and engine 7 for most of his career. Andrew taught body and fender at BOCES and serviced many family, fellow firefighters and friends vehicles as a secondary job.
He and his wife of 63 years, Flora (Nappa), who predeceased him by 12 years, enjoyed golfing, fishing and gardening together. They were high school sweet hearts from Syracuse Central High School. They wintered in New Port Richey, Florida and summered at camps in Otisco Lake and Oneida Lake for years.
Andrew was predeceased by several siblings, Bill (Mary), Frank (Jean), Patty (Marion), Jim (Beverly), Helen (George), Mary (AI), Kate (Howard) and John; brothers, Jim and Pat who were also fellow firefighters.
He is survived by daughters, Karen (Vic) Toland, Cathy (Ken) Bobis; son's, Tom (Diane) Whipple and Andy (April) Whipple Jr.; and several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Calling Hours will be held Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 11am to 1pm at New Comer Cremations and Funerals where a funeral service will follow at 1pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
