Anatoli T. Truskalo

June 1, 1948 — August 6, 2023

Sadly, we share with you that our beloved Anatolij Tichonovich Truskalo, better known as Toli, unexpectedly passed over at the age of 75 on Saturday, August 5th. He is survived by his three children, his sister and many friends made over his seventy years, living in Syracuse, NY.

He was born in Belgium to Ukrainian parents and was passionately Ukrainian. In fact, he was Ukraizy! His family emigrated here when he was just five years old, speaking only Ukrainian and French. His first day of kindergarten was on Halloween Day. He was delighted with all the costumes and thought this was how American children dressed for school!

Anatolij was an artist in heart and spirit, a wine lover and discerning foodie. His art was expressed on clothing imprinted with clever and unique Ukrainian-themed designs and through his artistic and commercial photography. His studio in Armory Square was his sanctuary. His art and loving influence can be found in wedding and family albums and framed in homes across Central New York and abroad. He touched many lives with his open hearted, generous and free spirit. He will be sadly missed.

The family and community will be hosting a gallery reception showcasing Anatolij's life's work in conjunction with his celebration of life gathering, at his downtown studio, 181 Walton Street Syracuse, on Friday, September 15th from 5-8pm. Please feel free to bring a bottle of your favorite wine that evening to share in honor of Anatolij and/or a bottle of San Pellegrino, both of which he loved. Extended gallery hours will be Saturday, September 16th from 2-6pm and Sunday, September 17th from 2-4pm.
