Almeda S. Calhoun

June 1, 1923 — November 16, 2018

Mrs. Almeda Sease Calhoun left this earthly dwelling peacefully and comfortably at home on Friday, November 16, 2018, with her daughter, Shelia and grand-daughter, Shelly Ginger by her side. Almeda was born in Ehrhardt, Bamberg County, South Carolina on June 1, 1923 to Carrie and Henry Sease and had been a lifelong resident of Syracuse, NY.

She was a foster parent for a number of years and worked for Syracuse University food services before retiring from the Veteran's Administration Medical Center after 26 years of service.

Almeda was an active member of the Mount Carmel Seventh Day Adventist Church from 1965, where she served as a Deaconess and as Senior Usher Assistant Leader. As a result of her great love for young people, she organized the Junior Usher Board in 1981 and was enthusiastically supportive of youth ministries in general. She served her church in many capacities. Serving the Lord was her passion, and she used her eyes, hands and feet in order to benefit those in need. Her favorite Bible text and her life's testimony was Ecclesiastes 9:10 –Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might. In addition to being helpful to all those who asked, Almeda enjoyed power walking with her "BFF" Louise "Tee" Walker, she also enjoyed reading, genealogical research and writing poetry and short stories. A self-taught writer, Almeda put her skills to good use in the role of Church Historian and creating her own family genealogy tree for her children and extended family members. Almeda was a published author of her autobiography which today is patented and on display in Washington, DC.

Almeda was predeceased by her beloved parents, Henry Sease and Carrie Sease-Wade, her brothers, Sylvester and Alonzo Sease, her husband, James P. Calhoun, her Grand-daughter, Loquetia Ranette Harris-Matthews, her sister in God's name, Gloria Palmer, and her name sake daughter, Almeda E. Lee.

Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her beloveds: Daughter and caregiver, Shelia M. Harris; Grand-daughter and caregiver, Shelly Ginger Harris; sons, William F. Harris, Jr., Charles H. Sease and Ricardo McElroy; Daughters, Sylvia C. Harris, Evelyn Allen and Pepper L. Huntley; Son in God's name, Edward Wims; several In-Laws, grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Calling hours will be from 9:00am - 10:00am on Wednesday, at the Mount Carmel Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1926 Midland Ave., Syracuse with a celebration of life to follow.

The family wishes to thank CNY Hospice, Alzheimers of CNY and SUNY Cancer Center for such kind and compassionate care of our mother.
