Alice B. Chico, 76, of Syracuse, beloved wife, mother, teacher and nurse, passed away December 3, 2018.
Alice was a native of Brooklyn, NY and moved to Syracuse in 1973. She retired in 2012 after 10 years as a NYC Public Health Nurse and 40 more as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
One of the area's first nurse practitioners, she was active in raising the profile of the profession in central New York. In retirement, Alice returned to patient care, studying Clinical Pastoral Education and serving as an Assistant Chaplain at SUNY Upstate Medical Center Spiritual Care Center.
She had been since 1974 a proud member of and lay leader within May Memorial Unitarian Universalist Society. She enjoyed many styles of music and was an enthusiastic swing dancer, dance teacher and mentor. She was also an avid reader, puzzle solver, walker and yoga practitioner.
She was preceded in death by her husband and children's father Luis A. Chico, parents Eddie & Esther Benton of Manhattan, brother Jeremy Benton and nephew Tim Benton. She is survived by Michael Stafford-Hill, her husband and partner for 35 years; daughter, Sarah (Joseph) Miller; a son, Michael Chico; and a grandson, Justin Miller.
A memorial service will be held at May Memorial Unitarian Universalist Society December 16th at one thirty in the afternoon. Memorial contributions may be made to: Hospice of Central New York or Francis House (https://francishouseny.org)
