Alice "Ali" Sherman, 90, passed peacefully on February 17, 2025, after enduring the challenges of Parkinson’s disease.
Ali was born in Watertown, NY, on April 30, 1934, to Ora and Myrtie (Reed) Bezner and grew up and attended schools in Adams, NY. Ali completed nursing school in 1958 at the House of the Good Samaritan in Watertown to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN), working in various capacities over the years.
Ali excelled at knitting and crocheting, creating beautiful blankets and scarves for family members. She loved growing houseplants and flowers, especially pansies and roses. She was a fan of reading, working jigsaw and word puzzles. Ali was not one to sit idle for long and could often be found in the kitchen baking treats for family to enjoy while listening to her favorite musical artist, Neil Diamond. No one has been able to replicate her legendary chocolate chip cookies – though many have tried!
Ali is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Charles “Chick” Sherman; a brother, James Bezner (Joyce) of Ste. Genevieve, MO; a son, Michael (Wendy) Sherman of Syracuse, NY; daughters Deborah (Steven) Lough of Cicero, NY, and Rebecca (Jeffrey) Stepanik of Londonderry, NH; 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and eight nieces and nephews.
Ali was predeceased by her son Jeffrey C. Sherman (May 12, 1959-January 12, 2020) of Tampa, FL.
Happiest at home and a true nurturer at heart, Ali created a home filled with cats, dogs and birds, a trait passed on to family members. When her children were younger, she even opened her heart to briefly house a raccoon, “Ricky”, who was rescued by her son, Mike. Alice lived a quiet and rich life, modeling for others how to enjoy the small and simple joys of living. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
