Alfred B. "Al" Welch, Jr., 79, of Liverpool, passed away Tuesday at his home with his wife by his side.
He was born in Syracuse, the son of the late Alfred Sr. and Marjorie Welch.
He retired from Le Moyne College in 1999 after 20 years with the Building and Grounds Maintenance Dept. Prior to his employment at Le Moyne, Al worked as a mason for various contractors.
Al was an avid woodworker and could construct anything if given a photo. He enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren.
He is also predeceased by his brother James Welch.
Al is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Carol Welch; his children, Christine DelBalso, Laura Welch, Paul (Joanne) Welch, and Beth Welch; grandchildren, Andrea and Nicole DelBalso, and Bryanna and Michael Welch; his great-grandchildren, MacKenzie, Julianna and Nicholas; his sisters Susan (Mike), Cindy (Tim) and brothers Bob (Emilie), Phil and Steven (Linda) and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 10am – 12 Noon on Saturday at New Comer Funeral Home, N. Syracuse. Graveside service will be 12:30pm on Saturday at Onondaga Valley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice CNY.
