Albert A Bingham

January 1, 1922 — June 6, 2019

Albert A. Bingham, of Fayetteville, NY, died on June 6, 2019 at the age of 97.

Born in New York City on January 1, 1922, he was the older of the two sons born to Albert B. Bingham and Marion Bingham. He was educated at the Hill School of Pottstown, PA and graduated from Princeton University with honors in 1943 (although he was in the class of 1944). During the Second World War, he joined the Navy and spent the next two years as a Gunnery Officer on a destroyer operating with the Carrier Task Forces in the Pacific. One of his proudest moments was when we was present to witness the famous flag raising in Mt. Suribachi during the battle of Iwo Jima. In 1946, he joined the Prudential in Newark, NJ and became a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in 1953. Shortly after obtaining Fellowship, he joined MONY in New York City. After being promoted to Vice President of MONY, he was transferred in 1970 to the MONY office in Syracuse, NY and moved to Fayetteville, NY.

He retired from MONY in 1981. In 1947, he married Virginia (Ginny) Bingham and together they raised two children, a daughter, Cheryl and a son Gary. The family lived in Summit, NJ until 1970 when they moved to Fayetteville following Al's MONY promotion and transfer to Syracuse. While a resident of Fayetteville, he was very active in local community. He was Vice Chairman of The Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce, was on the Board of the Metropolitan Development Association, along with the Board of Chase Lincoln Bank, and he was President of the Upstate Chapter of The American Heart Association. He was a member of the Onondaga Golf and Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf and tried to beat his wife Ginny in tennis, however with little success.

In the wintertime, he enjoyed cross-country skiing. His great love was sailing. He bought his first boat while in NJ where he sailed on the Barnegat Bay or on the Atlantic Ocean. After moving to Fayetteville, he purchased 3 more boats, the last of which was his favorite, an identical one that won the Newport Bermuda race and sailed to England and back.

He enjoyed sailing on Lake Ontario and joined the Henderson Harbor Yacht Club where he was a member for many years.
Al and Ginny sailed together a total of 43 years. His beloved wife Ginny died in 2015 after 68 years of marriage.

He leaves as survivors his daughter Cheryl, of Union Bridge, MD and his son Gary of Enfield, CT. Services will take place Friday, July 26th, 2pm, at Pebble Hill Presbyterian Church, in DeWitt.
