Albert "Al" Wirkes, beloved father, husband, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, 88, of Liverpool, passed away June 10, 2011. Born in Syracuse, Al lived in the Syracuse area all of his life. Al was a WWII veteran serving in the Army Medical Corp., stationed in England. He was a member of the Mattydale VFW Post 3146 and was it's Quartermaster over 30 years. Al was a former member of the American Legion Post 787 for over 15 years and the Knights of Columbus (St. Joseph Council 5398) and the Durhamville Veteran's Club. He is predeceased by his first wife, Carol Webb in 1982 and his second wife, Esther "Pattie" Dineen in 2005.
He is survived by two sons, John Wirkes (Ivy) and Rev. Stephen Wirkes; daughter, Christine Angell (Don); sister; Ann "Mae" Selley; three grandchildren, Laura, Lindsay and Dustin; 2 great grandchildren, Adam and Hudson.
Services will be Tuesday, 10 AM at St. Margaret's Church.
Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
