Alan K. Butler, of 525 Mosely Drive, Syracuse, NY, passed away, after an extended illness, on February 26 in Rochester, NY.
Alan was born in Hackensack, N.J., on February 6, 1952, to Kenneth D. Butler of Charlestown, Mass., and Julia Leslie Harrison of Mt. Vernon, NY. He graduated from Henninger High School at Syracuse, New York. He studied at Onondaga County Community College. For many years he worked in maintenance and technical inspection at Crouse-Hinds Company in Syracuse and Carrier Corporation in East Syracuse, NY.
Al served in the Living Word Church Orchestra for 40 years. He was a flute instructor at the Living Word Academy for 30 plus years. Until recently he volunteered his time at the school filling various needs, including teaching assistant, and cleaning crews for many years for the church and school.
His hobbies included flute repair, small appliance repair, fine wood working, and for many years was an active aficionado with a wide knowledge of classic old-time railroad trains and historical railroad routes throughout New York State.
Alan is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Suzanne Butler Richardson of Eliot, Maine.
Alan is survived by former wife, Darlene Hobart-Butler of Syracuse; stepdaughter, Tami Irish, husband Joe, and their children, of North Syracuse; sister, Pamela Butler O'Bryan of Eliot, Maine; and brother, Thomas Butler, wife Jeanne, and children from Tempe, Arizona.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:15 P.M. at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 North Main Street.
There will be a time of honoring of Al starting at 6:15, officiated by brother Thomas.
There will be a private burial.
