As a young man in Germany, Adam learned to be a tailor by trade. After coming to the U.S. in 1961, where he soon became a citizen, he continued working as a tailor and also opened and ran The Bavarian Ski Shop, outside of Manlius, NY.
He was an avid skier, a soccer player, referee, and fan, and loved to build and restore homes.
In his later years, he divided his time between the U.S. and his beloved Alps, where he built a chalet at the foot of the Kaiser mountain range in Ellmau, Austria. He hosted many memorable ski trips through the Onondaga Ski Club to this chalet and remained a member of the ski club for over 30 years.
