Donald Arthur Seymour, 93, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2020, surrounded by his family.
He is predeceased by the love of his life, his wife of 68 years, Shirley Isobel (Hamilton) Seymour, in 2019.
Donald was the son of Albert and Rena Seymour of Syracuse.
Don was born on September 18, 1926, in Lowville, NY. He graduated from Mount Carmel Christian High School, in Kentucky, in 1944, and entered military service. He served in the Army-Air Force, as it was called during WW II. He was training for the invasion of Japan in California when President Truman had the military drop the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima. He served on Guam as a part of the Military Police. He was Honorably Discharged in November 1946.
When he came home, he trained as an apprentice carpenter, and continued in that occupation for over 40 years. He worked for various companies, retiring from Butterfield Construction in 1991. He also did private construction jobs for many people, and built his own home on weeknights and weekends, where he resided until his passing.
After retiring he was a parts driver for a dealership, drove shuttle and did dealer trading with a variety of companies, driving through all the states on the East Coast and as far west as Chicago.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Seymour; and his son, Wayne Seymour. He has three grandchildren, Peter Seymour, Michelle (Steven) Saxer and Paul Seymour. He also has five great grandchildren, Marcis Seymour, Matina Seymour, Shane Seymour, Jai Seymour and Owen Seymour.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2020, from 10-11am at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse, with services at 11am. Burial will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to New Life Liverpool Power Pack Program, which provides meals for needy children on the weekends, in the Liverpool and the West Genesee School Districts.
